My old roommate bought a used '86 honda civic a few years back that had
originally been delivered in Canada. Previous owner moved to the US and
brought the car with her. Apparently minimal hassles getting the car
registered/titled here (Washington state). The speedometer was never
converted from kmh to mph--scares passengers when you're on the freeway and
the speedo says "100" and they don't know about the car :)
I don't recall the source or exact details, but I read something about
Canada requires auto manufacturers to offer essentially the same vehicle in
Canada if it's available in the US--if not, they can offer their ROW car.
So for example, you can find a Toyota Landcruiser in 2 door hardtop version
in Canada as well as the 4 door station wagon version while we get only the
latter, so this may not be so tough afterall.
