Speaking of statistics, here?s the final figures for Audi and it?s
significant European, Japanese and US Brand competitors for 1995 and
changes vs. 1994:
BRAND 1995 1994 +/(-)
Cadillac 180,504 210,686 -14.0%
Lincoln 150,814 179,166 -15.8%
Acura 97,151 112,137 -13.2%
BMW 93,309 84,501 +10.4
Volvo 88,505 81,788 +8.2%
Lexus 79,334 87,419 -9.2%
MB 76,752 73,002 +5.1%
Infiniti 58,616 51,450 +13.9%
Saab 25,594 21,679 +18.1%
Land Rover 20,026 12,045 +66.3%
Audi 18,124 12,575 +44.1%
Jaguar 18,085 15,195 +19.0%
Porsche 5,771 5,819 -0.8%
Alfa Romeo 414 565 -26.7%
Of the 18,124 Audis, it breaks out like this:
A4/80/Cabriolet 8,556
S4/S6 948
A6/100 8,619
V8 Quattro 1 (must have gotten a hell of a deal)
Just for fun, it is interesting to look at other car lines sold in
the US with similar levels of sales performance. This provides an
exclusivity benchmark of sorts....
To wit, this makes the A4 and A6 about as rare as:
Eagle Summit 9,443
Jaguar XJS 5,403
Mazda MX3 8,076
MB SL class 6,964
Infiniti Q45 7,803
Nissan 300ZX 4,176
Porsche 911 5,311
Saab 9000 6,153
Lexus GS300 6,449
Lexus SC 3/400 7,720
Toyota Paseo 5,618
VW Cabrio 5,538
For what its worth, the Mitsubishi 3000GT Series hit 10,198.
There were quite a few car lines below (some well below...) 5,000
units, including the Alfa 164, BMW 850i, RX7, Suzuki Swift, 928, 968,
Mazda 929, and Subaru SVX.
So, three cheers for the 39 people that brought Audi in ahead of
Jaguar in ?95.
