Whistlin' Dixie

I remember somebody mentioning a test drive of an Ur-Q a while back where
the car sounded like a turbo - ie it whistled. I've recently noticed a
whistling from my atmospheric 10V I5 in higher rpm's (4000 up) under
heavy load. It's VERY noticeable with the windows down. I can't check
to see where it's coming from because it only occurs under load and
revving the engine with the hood up does nada. Any clues/experiences?

On a maybe related note. In the last week I've noticed a quiet clunking
sound eminating from the exhaust pipe. Today it was very distinctive,
and coordinated exactly with the knocking from my vaccuum pump. It's
definitely a sound that originates in or just out of the engine, not
something mechanically clunking in the exhaust itself. It may clear up
after the car's warm (sure seemed like it, but I haven't had enough
experience with it yet to know if it's from the car being cold or not).
If anybody has any ideas, I sure would be happy to hear them. I'm a
pessimist and figure I'm about to burn a piston or something.

TIA
