Thanks for the suggestions Graydon ...

I think you may be ... a rack wouldn't be that bad since I've BTDT ... I 
replaced the rack last year ... when I learned that it is imperative to 
note which fitting is the inlet and which is the return :(.  I only wish 
I knew about your source for the SS sleeved racks back then ...

... I guess I wasn't totally clear ... there is a leak somewhere around 
the pump, the area is moist from the lifeblood of the hyd system.  I just 
can't identify the source from the remains.  What I meant to say was that 
I didn't see any freh drips forming when I left the engine running for a 
while.  I'm thinking about wrapping the pump and the hoses with some clean
rags and then take a test drive ...
