I'll see you in Steamboat Springs Dave, who else of you on the list are
going? I understand the Ritchies (Ned) will be there.
I decided it was time for my son, Eban, and I to get some experiance on the
slippery stuff. His mom worries when he drives the mountains each weekend
to go snowboarding.
I'll echo Dave's sentiments about paricipating in one of the QC's advanced
driving/safety schools. GO, and take a family member or sig. other as a
co-driver.
When I went to my first Quattro Club event at Second Creek in '94, I took
Eban, then 16, with me as a co-driver. I had to do a little fast talking
since the club wanted (or at least thought they wanted) everyone to be at
least 18 to partcipate. To say the least, this was the best weekend a father
and son (or daughter for that matter) could spend with each other. So many
great people at the event like John Feurst, an instructor, who took my son
under his wing and showed him how to push both himself and the car to their
limits - and most important, how to recognize when those limits were
reached. Eban is certainly a better driver now - no less agressive, I'm
sure; but, a better more controlled driver in the dry. Now, we are adding to
that education by going to the Q Club's Winter Driving School in Steamboat
Springs. No guarantee participation will prevent accidents; but, I do feel
more comfortable with his (and my) abilities and we have a common shared
experiance.
Incidently, when Eban and I went back to Second Creek last year there were
no less than three teens participating. A trend I hope continues.
P.S. From what I understand, I don't have to worry about bent rims at this
event. :)
