My experience, based on my '85 5000s, tells me that your wheel 
bearing's probably gone.  When my car was showing the symptoms you 
describe, the bearing was so far gone that the entire hub assembly 
had to be replaced (the spindle part of it was deeply scored).  I'm 
keeping my fingers crossed that this isn't your problem...
