When my buddha gets a bit off-center I usually just rub his belly and he
rights himself. :)
Seriously, I think the VW-Audi four just ain't the smoothest engine at
idle. My family has always had VWs and Audis and all of the fours have
always been a bit wobbly at idle. It's a good engine, but not perfect.

It is my understanding that the 84-87 4K (non-Q) used the same engine as
the VW GTI with a less restrictive exhause manifold. Transplanting this
engine (or, as long as we're dreaming a 2.0L) into your Jetta would cost
a few bucks. For less money (if you are willing to do some looking and
don't need/want a quattro) you should be able to find a clean 85-87 4000.
A better route, I think.
