Oil vs Earl

there is no benefit derived from switching to a synthetic.  With that 
many miles wear patterns have been established in the engine so switching 
to a synthetic won't help much."

Well, no matter when you switch, you get (a) better pumpability,
(b) more stable viscosity (c) higher flash point (d) less impurities
(e) lower friction, etc.  The difference may be LESS but its not ZERO.
