... I'm not really familiar with the engine control system for the '84
Coupe GT, but I did have something similar happen on my '83 QTC. In
my case the problem was that there is a ground line for the computer
that connects to the intake manifold (brown wire). I cleaned up the
connection (w/very fine sandpaper) and resolved the problem. The
bad ground was corrupting the signals that the computer needs to
control the spark and fuel. 4000 RPM is a very magic number on the
QTC ... I don't know if that is also true on the Coupe ...
