I went because I wanted some real work done, not just replacing the
shocks and returning the car to stock. My regular mechanic can do that.
The performance shop's business is setting up suspensions, and most of
his work is on German, especially Audi/VW cars. He really knew his stuff.
Also, he is an independant shop. So is my regular mechanic. Both
charge about the same: $40/hour give or take. Of course, Pete spent
2+ days on my car, swearing the whole time, but only charged me 10 hours.
When you want general maintenance, go to a general mechanic. If you want
specialty work, go to a specialty shop.
