Radiator fan operation

Now that I have the AC recharged and can run in Auto vice Econ, my radiator
fan seems to come on as soon as I start the car - as near as I can tell, its
running continuously.  Does anyone know what the cycle specs should be?  Is
this also controlled by the time delay relay (fan/turbo cooling pump) that I
already know needs replacement?
I can't find any explanation of the 3 stage fan operation listed in the
Bentley.
