Re: calling all TQC Owners.
Bob, From the description it sounds like the famous vacume pump noise. First
time I heard it on my 4kq, I thought my rod bearings were gone for sure.
TCQ's have this same pump too? Never noticed. If so keep your oil clean, and
with luck, you'll never hear it on your car. The noise is caused by a
chilled billit rod that works off an eccentric on the cam to drive the pump.
The rod is lubricated by oil that simply splashes into and out of the pump.
Theory has it that old oil residue in the pump prevents the rod from
following the can eccentric as smoothly as it should. THis causes a slap
that makes you thin bug $$$$. Christoper Ice wrote a lot about this a year
or so ago - don't know if its in the archives or not.
