Nope, the QTC doesn't have a vacuum pump ... we get the hydraulic 
brake boost instead.

I've BTDT on the EM resurface and stud exercise on mine.  IMO I can't
see an exhaust leak coming on when you blip the throttle and then go
away at 1200 RPM as Bob described.  I can't think of any other plausible
explanation either.  Perhaps if you digitized the noise and made it avail-
able to the list we could listen to it to see if it sounded familiar ...
it is so hard to know exactly what a "tick" sounds like!
