Relay switch going bananas

A first happened while driving about 2 hrs to Raleigh, NC for a hotel
room...Yes, frozen tree limbs come crashing down on everything throughout the
city.  30,000 homes without electricity for a few days sent everyone
scrambling to hotels...

While driving the relay switch left of the steering wheel in the dash when
mad and started clicking endlessly for 20-30 seconds at a time.  It did this
two to three different times on the ride.  My heated seats were on, so I
turned them off.  It continued a little bit for a short time, but never
occured again...Any thoughts as to what may have caused this?  On the ride
back today, the seats heated nicely and there was no excessive
clicking....Puzzled
