I'm also surprised you only made it 11.4 miles.  It may well be that your
battery was already sick.  When my last battery died, the only symptom I
got was it's inability to stay charged after I left the parking lights on a
few hours (by mistake).  I had the system checked out, because the voltage
readings I took myself seemed ambiguous.  Sure enough, the battery was in
terrible shape.
