Centre Diff question
Last week when I was working on the TQ, I needed to move the thing about six
inches backwards. The rear wheels (and every single thing related to the
brakes) was off the car, and I didn't feel like putting it back on, so I just
put a rolling jack under the rear end & moved it. Two people pushing it didn't
work, so I jumped in, fired her up, put it in reverse (I know I could have
knocked the thing off the jack, but I was actually hoping I would, then I
woulnd't have to pay the cash to replace the rear brake pads, rotors, calipers,
hoses, cables, bearings and seals, much less repair the A/C that doesn't work
anymore, the screwed up Cruise control, the hesitation at 4,500RPM's, the
wrinkled quarter panel, the smashed headlights, the destroyed grill, the
scuffed bumper, the gas cap I can't unlock, the list goes on) and low and
behold, the car didn't move! Clutch all the way out, and the rear axels just
spun. No, I didn't lock the diff. I thought the centre diff was only capable
of splitting 70/30? This was 100/0, the car didn't move an inch. Gave it a
little gas too. I know it works, I had it in a foot of snow this weekend (had
to have a FWD Eclipse tow it out, how embarrasing) so I know all four wheels
will spin if on equal footing, so wassup??
