Yes, indeed, that's my routine also.  Eric's comment about carcass is 
true I guess, but if you get to it fast, the surface temp should be 
pretty close to carcass temp, because the surface is where most of the 
heat came from in the first place. (a little comes from internal 
friction, but that isn't much compared to the tire-road friction.)
