OK' I think you're refering to the inner, yellowish, parking lights on the
TURBO models, especially 86-88 for the 5k's(maybe more recently too) and on
the 100's and 200's(turbos as well). I guess they wanted to do something
that looked more sleek and worked better with the front grill which I
believe is different, mostly for the intercooler(+headlights, depending on
how you look at it and which came first, headlight or ...um...egg?)
