Removing stereo on A5000:

Yes, I'm back with my second question of the day.  How do you remove the 
factory stereo from an 86 Audi 5000?  Do I have to take out the HVAC 
control panel and get at it somehow from in there?  Or is there a more 
direct way?  I can't seem to find the screws that are holding in the 
lighter/storage container or the radio placed above it, but popping the 
faceplate off the HVAC unit and unscrewing it is much easier.  I want to 
upgrade the radio ASAP. :)  Any help will be appreciated.
