RE: More V8 Questions...
Well, let's see...
Audi no longer offers the full front end swap for the V8 or 91 200 wagon
that they used to do for the UFO brakes. It consisted of large parts of
the front suspension being replaced as well as the regular 200 sedan
brakes being fitted. Supposedly, it cost thousands of dollars and
lightened the front end of the car (some would say the latter is
necessary).
What they still do, according to a dealer I talked to in the Bay Area,
is offer an upgrade which consists of rotors and pads that are
supposedly less prone to warping, but retain the greater stopping power
(a function of the larger swept area, I assume) of the UFO brakes. Audi
supposedly won't divulge exactly what the changes are but the parts do
have different part numbers.
What I'm planning to do about my "new" (to me) 91 200qw is to go to Audi
and ask nicely (and then yell :-) for an Audi sponsored upgrade to the
new parts, since I have the receipts for the last brake job at 26K miles
and it's now at 48K miles with warped rotors that give the car a slight
jiggle when braking lightly at exactly 55mph. Sounds like a shoe-in to
me :-)
Good luck with your new V8 and I must commend you on your stable of
vehicles. I've lusted after a Corrado for quite a while now.
