Brooks,
I too have thought about buying one of the Celica Alltrac turbos, but I
just can't see spending $8000.00 or so when I can buy an Audi 5ktq for
around half that figure. The Alltracs use a viscous type differential (so I
have been told)
and don't have diff locks. I have driven a couple of them and these were my
impressions:
1. Very heavy clutch as compared to a normal GTS
2. Fast, but not as fast as I would have expected for a turbo.
3. Handled pretty well. Didn't have a chance to test it very much though.
4. ABS available.
5. Tape decks have a design flaw that causes the tape to load but not play.
(I know how to fix this if anyone is interested)
The Alltrac turbo was available in the '86 to '88 body style, and in the next
generation body style, so you do have a choice.
Gotta go
