1991 90 20V Power steering pump

My hydrolic / power steering pump has gone south.  The dealer wants $845 for
a new one!  This is out of the question,  Who can want to keep this
wonderful car if each part cost close to a grand to repair. I have called
Shokan and got the price of a rebuilt pump down to $345 which is much better
but this is still not good considering what the part is.  Now unless someone
can explain to me why this part is so expensive I may lean towards bad
mouthing the audi line.  I don't think I will get rid of my quattro because
it is truly a joy to drive but I may find something else to drive around in
and use the Q for show only.  Maybe put it in plexi glass and use it as a
lawn marker.

So in short does anyone have any suggestion as to where I can locate a pump
for less then $345,  is this a fair price for this part, what else can you
do with such a nice piece of art work.  

I have called several junk yards and because this is a 20v the parts are few
and far between.
