radio installation
i replaced the stock radio in my 87 5kcstq a while back and might have
a piece of info that helps the people out there having problems with the
rear shelf speakers.
i hooked the front speakers up, and they worked fine; but when i hooked
the rears up and got some volume going, the whole speaker setup would
shut off. after some experimenting, i can to this configuration that
has worked for a few months:
hook the front speakers up normal and hook only the positive terminals up
to the rear speaker wiring. sounds like it shouldn't work, i know, but
_it does_. this is using all the stock wiring for everything. sometimes,
though, i have to turn the stereo off and back on (when i first start the
car) to get the amp in the rear to work.
the power plugin on my stock cassette deck had 4 or 5 terminals:
power, ground, antennea/power amp on, lights, and mute (for the cell fone???)
power, ground, antennea/power amp on, lights, and mute (for the cell fone???)
somebody give this a try and see if it works for them.
i may call crutchfield and see if their adaptor (i heard something about)
will work, because this setup does add a little noise to the rear speakers
at low volumes levels.
