I drove the S6 last night, actually it was a wagon. It was a very
nice car. Acceleration was strong, but not quite what I expected.
I think that is because my expectations were a bit too high, in that
respect. It handled extremely well for a large car like that and it
gets interesting when the power really comes on. But, since this
will be shared car with my wife, I know that it is not the right
choice for me at this time. If I was getting rid of the V8 (doubt
that will happen) the S6 would be the only choice.
It was great to compare the S6 and the E320 back to back, because
the differences between them became very apparent. The Merc had a
softer suspension setup and the engine had good torque throughout
the revs. The S6 was very firm and power comes on strong after 1.5
to 2 secs. (Too bad that there is no boost guage!) I wonder what
shape the clutches of the test cars that the magazines get are like
after they beat the daylights out of them? To get the 0-60 times
the mags list would really take some serious revs off of the line!
Anyway it looks like the E320 will be next to the V8 in the garage
real soon. Now those are two cars that are very similar. Too bad
the A8 is not out yet, oh, and too bad it will be $65k. Ouch!
