Brake work on 91 200qw
The story so far: the car had the front rotors replaced at 23,396 miles
and they're now warping again at 49,400 miles. I'm trying to get Audi
of NA to replace them free of charge to me, as they have already
acknowledged that there's a problem with cooling the rotors in the
internal caliper brakes as applied to the 91 V8 and 200 quattro wagon.
Today, I talked to Audi of NA and they claim (as expected) that they're
probably not going to be able to foot the bill to have the warped front
rotors on my car replaced. They say that just because there's a TSB
doesn't mean that there's a problem, and I quote, "as TSBs are issued to
cover items that are not covered in the service manuals." BS. It is my
opinion that Audi has, even if it is only implied, acknowledged that
there's a design flaw in the internal caliper brakes that causes them to
cook rotors at an abnormal rate. I don't think they would have
authorised the original work (new struts, entire brake assemblies etc.)
at a cost of thousands of dollars if there wasn't a problem.
Does anybody have any idea of how I might proceed with this? Should I
escalate it with Audi from the original person I dealt with there (who's
"just" a front-line person answering phones, although she seemed fairly
knowledgable)?
Thanks.
