Re: Tire advice needed

Maybe living in the desert affects my perspective on this issue but I rather
like the BFG Comp T/As as street tires; I've had good luck in the past using
Yokohama A-008s as well (although the set on my car now are very susceptible
to tramlining, which makes the car *very* darty) and Bridgestone RE71s. For
track use, I've always liked the feel of Yokes although they aren't quite as
sticky (hence not as quick) as BFGs and especially Hoosiers ... this is true
of both high-speed (drivers school) and low-speed (autocross) events.

One thing I have noticed, though: the exact same set of tires that are on my
200q now were previously on my FWD 5k and they behaved entirely different on
*that* car. Which brings up another point: you can't readily compare apples
and oranges. Just because any given tire works well on one car doesn't mean
it will also work well on another ... suspension geometry, alignment, setup,
etc. all play a large part in determining how well a tire works on a car and
to make any comparision fair, all of these must be optimized for every tire.
(I know Graydon & STEADIRIC know this but it may not be common knowledge for
everyone else. This is probably why you don't see too many tire comparisons
in the automotive press anymore ... done properly, they're too much work!)

I don't have much recent experience with Dunlops so I won't add any comments
about them but I *do* have recent experience with the Michelin MXX3: they're
round, black and hold air. How's that for diplomacy? ;^)
