More Tire Gossip

Been reading the posts about the tire debate, so I thought I would add my
.025:

The SP8s on my roommate's VR6 Jetta have pretty much worn out in about 5
months.  He is an aggressive driver though.

Tried RE71s on my Scirocco years ago.  Was arguably the best tire in its
time.  Old news now, I think.

AVS was a decent tire, as was the A008 & the R version.  

Just ordered the Toyo Proxes in 205-45-16 for my 4Q, and the press has been
really excited about it.  But, don't have them yet so I can't comment.

I'll probably get laughed at for this recommendation, but I used a $60
Sumitomo (195/50-15) for 9 months with VERY little tread wear, good in the
rain, and respectable for Auto-X.  Hard to believe for a $60 tire, but if you
are on a budget, give them a try.  You might be surprised.
