All right! Another '85 ur-quattro owner! That makes three of us now, right
Glen?
I think you have to take the center console out so you can get to the back-
side of the panel that holds the window switches and lighter.
First, take all the controls off the AC/Ventilation panel. Then gently pry
the panel off. Be careful because the light that illuminates it is in at a
sharp angle. And be careful when you push the AC switch out of the panel
because it will want to snap back inside the dashboard.
Once this AC/Ventilation control panel is off, you'll see two screws. These
screws hold the upper part of the center console in place.
The other two screws are down by the gear shift boot.
Take the ash tray out.
Remove the two screws that hold the gear shift boot.
There are two more screws holding the shift boot. They are on the gear shift
housing, sort of on either side of the parking brake button if the parking
is off. Remove these screws.
Slide both seats all the way back.
There are two more screws in the gear shifht housing. They are oriented 90
degrees from the last two. Sliding the seats back should reveal them. Remove
these two screws.
At ths point, you'll be able to take out any piece of the center console you
want. You might want to take this time to put Lexol on the shift boot, clean
and re-grease the shift linkage, check your diff lock controls for vacuum
leaks, etc. I'm a big believer in doing all the "while you've got it apart"
stuff.
Well, have fun and feel free to email me directly with any other questions
or comments about these weird, cool cars.
Let us know the color, mileage, mods, etc on your car.
