4000 Front Speaker Upgrade - WTB Early 90 Quattro, 100/200 Quattro Wagon (Reasonable)

With careful disassembly, the speakers can be removed from the grill and
replaced with high quality 3.5 inch speakers. As in my 4000CS Quattro, I
suggest the Cliff Designs 3.5". In the rear I have a pair of Boston
Acoustics C700 II 2 way plate speakers with a pair of Aura bass shakers
(linear actuators, see March 96 Motor Trend) underneath the rear seat.
Without making any cutting, I have a very good sounding system, with the
high pass section of the system driven by a 4 x 20 watt Blaupunkt amp,
with the Auras powered by a 2 x 100 watt Concord amp (from 1988), the
signal separated by a MTX crossover.

My head unit is a trusty German made Blaupunkt New Yorker AM/FM/CD, the
one with the separate tuner box, also from 1988. The New Yorker
especially looks great in my dash. It is in need of a tune-up as the
laser mistracks on the first tracks on discs that have over 65 minutes
run time. Otherwise it still works great, and to this day, I have not
encountered any FM tuner that can outperform it. To me, it is a classic,
just like the Alpine 7909 AM/FM/CD.

Hope all this helps other 4000 owners who want to upgrade their stereos.
I uploaded some install documentation (sheets from Scosche installation
manual) last fall but can't find it posted anywhere in the archives.
I'll post this to the main list to see if anyone knows where it was
posted or where it went.

I am looking for an early Quattro 90 or a 100/200 Quattro Wagon at a
reasonable price. If anyone on the lists scans the classifieds,
especially in the Sounthwest and Denver, and sees one, drop me a note
