5k HVAC Debug Sequence

I've started to experience the dreaded fogging windows and no air through the
 center vents symptoms of a 5000 HVAC on the blink. From following previous
discussions on the list, I've compiled a "low cost to high cost" troubleshooting
list. (I am using the block of wood in the fresh air flap technique to control
fogging at this time. Works great!)

1. Check vacuum hoses on A/C controller for loose connections, splits. etc.
2. Check spring on heater flap. Replace if necessary.
3. Buy new controller.

Is my list correct? Did I miss anything? Also, can someone who performed the
 spring repair, send me the steps again?
