This race was the Melbourne Grand Prix, Super Touring Car Class, 10 March
1996.
It's the Australian equivalent of the German STW and English BTCC series. The
Audis were about eight seconds off the winning pace in the first race, six
seconds behind the winner in the second heat. For those of you who care,
here are the finishing results for the two races run on the past weekend:
Race 1
1. Geoff Brabham - BMW M3
2. Paul Morris - BME M3
3. Greg Murphy - Audi A4 Sport quattro
4. Brad Jones - Audi A4 Sport quattro
5. Jim Richards - Ford Mondeo (Contour twin)
6. Peter Brock - Volvo 850
Race 2
1. Geoff Brabham - BMW M3
2. Paul Mirris - BMW M3
3. Jim Richards - Ford Mondeo
4. Brad Jones - Audi A4 Sport quattro
5. Greg Murphy - Audi A4 Sport quattro
6. Peter Brock - Volvo 850
Better news comes from South Africa, where Audi supports a local "factory"
effort. Same formula, same two race format. Kylami circuit, on 9 March 1996.
The first race was close, with Audi winning by a fat second. The second race
was more convincing; the two Audis were separated by two seconds, followed by
the third place car over thirteen seconds off the winning time.
