Tailgaters Redux
I guess there's tailgating and real tailgating. Last night while
driving down lower RT 95 in CT., in my TQC I was really tailed. Traffic
was moving about 75-80 MPH in the first 2 lanes of a three lane road, maybe
2-3 car lengths between traffic. (nobody does anything stupid, noone gets
hurt!)
This section of highway is lit, I do the rear view check and see a face!
A little CRX was so close that I couldn't see any of his bumper or hood,
just a little of his dash and him! Since I probably had better brakes
than him, and the NSX in front of me definately did, I wanted to back him
off a little. Well no panic, I flipped on my rear fog, this usually wakes
'em up, no luck the guy clung. I lit my brakes a bit and the guy starts to
beam me! Again very close high speed traffic in all lanes.
I geared down 1, opened a spot and pulled right prepared to give this
guy an honest 700W of the Hella tanning bed that resides in my front
lights. He catches up and past in a cloud of CRX oil cloud and I nuke
him. This doesn't suit his tastes so he pulls a double right lane shift,
no blinker into the slow lane, OUCH. As they are only doing 70, he pulls
into the breakdown lane to pass, geez I really hate that! 150ft later, he
pulls back into traffic, no blinker and cuts some guy off. He was about to
do 80 right into 6 tons of sand in the form of the big traffic barrels they
put at off ramps. The DOT must have put them in the breakdown lane before
positioning them correctly.
Seeing all this happen scared the hell out of me for him, I almost felt
sorry for him, maybe he had an emergency or something! I figured that
eyeopener would slow him down, not, he takes the next exit at 3X ramp
speed, at least he's off the road. 30 seconds later may HP scanner alerts
and a trooper notifies the base he is in pursuit of a white CRX who just
passed him at a high rate of speed this time heading in the other
direction! I was out of range soon and didn't get and end to the story, I
hope they got him though, kinda wished for a cell phone to let the good
guys know the other crap he was pulling. Moral, sometimes cops are around
when you want one
