Armor All Alternative
I think the universal consensus is that Armour All (potentially) does more
harm than good. I believe that using it is like putting water into a frying
pan- it looks shiny and clean then it evaporates away (is that a good
analogy?) I think Armor All does exactly that: open the "pours" of the vinyl
surface; when the sun hits, the AAll evaporates and takes inherent
"nutrients" (chemical compounds) with it. I would venture to say that it
speeds the aging of the fabric through increased vaporization. Pretty good
B.S., isn't it?
As for alternatives, I believe I've heard that Vaseline is a BAD choice;
petroleum agents in the substance actually weaken rubber/vinyl compounds and
deteriorate them.
Recently, I discovered some really cool stuff. It is Eagle One LEATHER
conditioner. The stuff is amazing; it feels better than lubriderm. It works
great on leather and the label says it is good for vinyl as well. I believe
it is; I use it on the dash and other areas. It goes on "wet" but is absorbed
quickly. It doesn't leave the heinous AAll smell and it isn't slippery/shiny.
The dash just looks darker/blacker. Best of all, it doesn't seem to "film"
the windows. So it must be absorbed well. The bonus: you apply it with your
hands (so as to not waste product). It is relatively cheap, too. About 8$ a
bottle that should outlast 3 big spray bottles of AAll.
For tires, I think the best stuff is the cheap tire foam. Even if these
products "break down" the tire compound, tires, unlike dashboards, will be
replaced.
