re:'87 5KCST, AC "hunting" temp
Jerry,
I have the exact same problem on my car (virtually the same model)
and I have been assuming that this is a problem with the cabin air temp
sensor. One of two things, either the aspirator motor is dead or sluggish,
or it has sucked in so much dust that there is a big fur ball sitting on top
of the sensor like a big insulating blanket, thus deadening response.
Either way the sensor/motor has to come out, and I understand this is not
a fun activity.
I have noticed on rare occasions, that the "outside temp" indicator light
has been flashing (indicating an error condition) but have not had the magic
decoder ring handy to read/decipher the error codes. As this happens very
rarely, I think I have a second and intermittent problem, probably a sticking
temp flap control arm.
Any alternate ideas out there?
Paul
