4kcsq starting problems.
Mark has problems starting and running his car.
At first, I thought it had something to do with the fuel injection system, but
after some more thinking, it sure sounds like he has a catalytic converter that
is severely blocked.
If this is the case, I am sure that the temperature of the cat. is going to
effect its ability to breath.
To check this, disconnect the exhaust upstream of the cat. and start the car.
If it works great and idles, you know your problem. If this is the case, take a
flashlight and look down the cat. You'll probably find a bunch of honeycomb
stuff all over. I highly recommend that you replace it with another cat., not
just remove the old material (see recent posts). Your car was made to operate
with a cat.
Years ago, I was troubleshooting a MG Midget with almost exact symptoms. It was
the cat. It took me two weeks and about 20 hours of work to figure this out.
Good luck.
