our friends in Orygun have the same "protection" against their own
stupidity. but, as with all well-intended laws, there are ways around it :)
through a local fuel distributor, the puget sound bmw club got us onto a CFN
card-key system. these are card-lock pump systems that network around the
country--kinda like atm systems for fuel pumps. they cater primarily to
commercial trucks--folks who don't want to carry lots of cash just to pour
into their fuel tank or refuel at odd hours of the night. its an extra card
to carry (leave it in the car) and another PIN to remember, but then since
i'm forced to change passwords every 60 days, what's another one?
a bonus: in the seattle area, i pay about 13 pennies less/gallon for the
good stuff (1.295 vs. 1.429), 7 cents less for regular (1.15 vs. 1.22. it
all ends up charged to my mastercard. nice & simple.
