Do you mean the rear differential lock? The Torsen is automatic and apportions power
between front and rear axles.

Uhhh.... "They all do that". :) At least mine does. Check the archives for discussionssss
on noisey lifters. Try synthetic oil - it *may* help. Archives also have info on
synthetics.

I forget how, but look at the console, and by removing a couple of screws, you should be
able to remove the shift boot to get a close look at the shifter. The boot will come over
the shifter when the knob is unscrewed.

Two pieces - First piece is rear part. Four screws: Two under ashtray, two horizontal
under plastic cover at front of this piece, just behind shifter.
Second piece covers the shifter and ties in up under the dash. There should be one bolt
horizontal behind the shift boot, and two horizontal infront. I have not done this, but am
reading (trying to) from the Bentley.

Design flaw (Ohh gawhhdd did I upset the Audi Gods?). The seat tracks for both front seats
is only about 1/4" above the carpet. Run the seats back, and the mat pops up infornt of the
track. Bring the seat forward and it hooks the mat and rolls them forward. Solution? Use
a sheet metal screw into the carpet just infront of the tracks - it may work (The screw goes
into the carpet, not into the floor boards!!!) My solution? I am short and never get the
seats back that far.

Suggestion: Get a Bentley manual. They are not the best manuals I have ever seen, but they
cover most of the car, and provide a lot of good pictures! Yes, they are expensive - I
think the Repair Manual and Electrical Manual for your car cost me $140 three years ago.
But, it is money well spent.
