Leather Shift Knob Needed

My shift knob has ripped to shreads, and I need a new one.

This is for an '87 5KSQ. I imagine it is the same for almost all 5K's and
100/200's. I tried a plastic one that I bought at a VW dealer for $16, but the
bottom part which fits over the boot is not large enough. It ended up ripping.

I am looking for one in any kind of shape that doesn't have the leather ripped
on it. I'm sure your price will be better than the $50 some the dealer quoted
me.

By the way, I paid $87 for my replacement shift boot. However, since it was
replaced, it really greatly improves the looks.

I already deleted the digest with the posting for the 4KS shift boot. My
suggestion is:

Take the boot off, you will find that it mounts to a plastic ring at the top and
rectangular ring at the bottom. This is what you will get new. Bring your old
one to a seamstress or shoe repair shop and see if they can sew up a new one for
you. They can take your old one apart and use it for a pattern. I figured that
out after the dealer gave me the whimpy little replacement boot that still took
about 45 minutes to install!
