help buying a 93 and up 100

     I am new to Audies. I am interested in buying a 93 and up 100, or even 
     an A6. I have lots of FAQ like questions regarding this, but bear with 
     me because I can't find the faq.
     
     I am trying to get as much info on the Audi 100 line before buying 
     one.
     
     1. What is the model change from 93 on up? I know it went from 100 to 
     A6, but is it just a name change or redesign?
     
     2. What does S and CS stand for?
     
     3. Any problems I should look out for? I wanted a 5 speed, no quattro 
     (don't need it much in california). Also, if any one can recommend a 
     good place to have a pre-purchase inspection in SF Bay Area, please 
     let me know. I will be interested in recommendations on good sources 
     to look for used Audies here.
     
     4. Do these cars require lots of service? Are they easy to work on?
     
     5. How do they compare to a Passat GLX VR6?
