Boot... Bad Boot

Well, looks like the driver's side outer CV-joint boot has been tossing its
grease for some time now (hopefully less than a week or two ;| ). So now,
just as my classwork is picking-up, I'll have to spend some time with the
5000. I noticed in the Haynes manual (would *love* to find a decently
priced used Bentley) that the half-shafts can be removed w/o taking apart any
suspension pieces. Sounds great to me, as that isn't quite possible on
my Fox; job should go faster w/o screwing up the alignment. Are there
any tips I should be aware of before I attempt this? The Haynes makes it
look/sound easy... that's often a warning sign ;-)

BTW, how long do CV-boots usually last on a 5000 ? This one has ~25k mi.
and 22 months on it. I'm planning on trying to get a Meistersatz
boot-kit (lasted decently on the Fox)

TIA for any words of wisdom.
