I have a set of momo wheels that used to be on my 85 5000S. I now have an 89
200TQ and an 87 Coupe GT. If they fit, I think I'll see how they look on the
Coupe. My question is, besides trying to describe the wheels to someone, do
the numbers on the wheels mean anything. Or do wheel manufacturers have some
type of cross reference. Any wheel guys out there?

Thanks,

Mike Des Chenes

The advice I was given was to keep me, the driver, away from the curb
(kerb). This works till one gets into those damned One Way streets. Then
everything gets confusing. Especially when one exits from One Way street
into regular 2-Way traffic.

Brad Jones, Audi's other team driver escaped serious injury despite a
spectacular shunt n the first race. He was unable to compete, leaving Greg
Murphy to carry the Audi colours alone. Murphy set fastest race lap in the
first race, in which he placed second. Race two was better yet for Murphy
and Audi, as he took first.

Race action for the top placings was quite close. Five different makes made
up the first six finishers in both races.

Subject: Who is the wise guy?!?!?!?

To all,

o.k. I was working the other day and a friend of mine who had ordered
a pizza to take out told me an interesting story about an Audi driver
from Ct. This particular person wheeled his Audi past a speed trap in
the region of 165 M.P.H. Apparently he was clocked at this speed in
Mass. and there was a roadblock set up in Vermont where they finally
caught him. The fine was $1000.00 and various other fines.

The Vt. State Police escorted him to Mass. state line. Mass. State
Police escorted him to Ct. Ct. State Police escorted him to his house
and told him not to drive the car again.

Now this is what I heard and my friend goes to me, before he tells me
the story, "Now I know why you bought that Audi!!"

I am trying to find out what kind of Audi it was. Are you on the list.
If you are, please verify the story!!!!

I was driving a '90 20v Coupe Q the other day, and I noticed that
when I took my foot off the gas and hit the clutch at the same time, that
the RPM's would not drop right away. They would stay at the same frequency
for about a second, and then drop.
I have driven other 20v coupes and they did not have this problem,
nor does my 10v..

It seems that I have heard of this happening to other list members,
but do not fully recall the exact nature of the problem. A sticky throttle?
Idle stabilizer...?

If you could tell me, and how much it would probably take to fix it,
I would really appriciate it...A 20v coupe sound great compared to my 10v
sedan; but if I am going to have to put some serious $$$ into it, forget it.

Thanks a lot!!

I think the they are all 2.0 litres engine and they all make around 300hp.
Even the Volvo is 2.0 litre. I watched a couple of race on Prime network
a few months i.e. last year 95' races. I am not sure about the Audi though
since this is the first year they race in the series. I think all the car
has manual steering and non-power assisted brakes since the a couple of
drivers
were interviewed and they pionted out these cars are quite heavy and quite a
handful to handle. Vauxhall and Renault were also in the race.

This is a totally unrelated subject but since there were so many discussion
in this group about rear fog lights, the race in Dontington Park last year,
it was a BTCC race, the leading Volvo front windscreen fogged up so
bad he need to drop back behind his teammate and his teammate turned on his
rear fog light so he can followed him! It was particular interesting when
they showed the in car camera from the drivers point of view. I guess they
are useful even for race car! :)

On my 88 90, here is a relatively stupid question, but just want to
clear up some confusion: The idle stabilizer valve is the the deal
with the two big hoses and one electric connector near the front of
the engine? Now, my Idle was gotten worse, racing to 2000. And I
did accidentl break the elbow that connects the hose that runs along
the manifold and turn left to follow it. There is a plastic elbow that
has a small vacuum line on the bottom. I did break that off? What
is that for?
And, does anyone know what the Alternator amp rating is. Could I get
amore powerful one?

The 1990 90q20v does 0-60 in 7.9(June 1989 Car and Driver), and has
a higher top speed of 137.

larger diameter tires than stock and no wheel spin ...gotta love quattoros

also hung very close to the newest M3's (all the way to 140+ mph in one case).
I don't see why the coupe would be slower, as they both weigh the same
(3103-3180 lbs). Most likely the differences are due to testing conditions
and

Subject: V8 or 200TQ, and other ramblings....

Having BTDT and all that jazz.......... Here is my humble opinion on
this subject :-)

'bout the fall of 95 or so, was pondering the same question.

Looked at about half a dozen or so 89 pre-dual knock sensor 200TQ's
and was having a lot of fun blasting around Mass and New Hampshire.... :-)

I had delusions of modifying it to 350hp......... then my wife would say....
I can't drive a 5 speed.... to which I would reply... Great!, now I don't
have
to
share.... to which I usually got a dope slap in the back of the head... :-(

anyway....

Some differences:

V8Q:

Automatic, more stuff (Gadjets.....) inside, although rear seat passengers
like rear heated seats :-) nice fender flares, better looking (remember this
is my opinion...) stomp on it at say 30mph, downshifts to 1st, screams a
wonderfull 32 valve V8 growl........ next thing you know your in 2nd
approaching 80+..... I love this part....:-)

And most importantly to me, I do Technical support on the phone in the
car all the time, so an automatic actually made more sense.

200TQ:

5 speed, lighter by about 400lbs or so, no fender flares, need to wind it
up pretty good to get any real acceleration unless you do some mods....
less money... speaking of mods :-) there is serious HP to gain from
these cars...

At the time, If It didn't make so much sense for my business to have
an automatic I would have gotten the 200TQ because of the high HP
gains to be made. But I do have to admit I have grown very fond of
my V8. I like the fact that I came up behind a guy in his 87-92 5.0
mustang going thru a ramp when he attempted to blow me off, he
wasn't succesfull so he got mad and jacked on the brakes, I promptly
went around him and watched him slide sideways trying to stay with
me as the ramp turned in the other direction....... we come to a light and
bozo starts to get out of his car.... what a moron. I ended up taking a
different route to work because I didn't want this moron trashing my
car or something......

Anyway, there are a couple of other people here who have pondered the same
question as well..... maybe they can offer some info as well....

Subject: Re: Hella Aux low beams

Just to clarify...you want Hella 550 or 1000 LOW BEAMS? You really seeking to
have the general driving population pull you screaming from your Audi and
beaten to a juicy pulp? I'll assume you meant HIGH beams, as having any of
these lights for lows would result in a premature death by others and several
citations by officer Bob Speed.
If you want them for high beams, then you're on the right track. Legality
varies from state to state. My state requires they be 'x' number of inches
apart and 'x' number of inches from the ground and must be wired into the
high beam circuit. Fog lights (which these are not; the 1K's anyway) are the
same but must be wired into the low beam circuit. An additional switch to
turn them off completely is acceptable and advisable. The Rallye 1000's are
terrific lights, but bulky and expensive, and may even get stolen from your
car. The 550's are much easier to mount, less expensive but aren't as
effective and construction quality is a bit lower. Incidentally, I have a
pair of 550 driving lights I could be made to part with :). Other posts have
covered mounting and wiring with relays, etc. so search the archives.
Bruno has six 1000's on the front of his TQC, BTW. Headlamps used merely for
road legality. Wonder how many alt. he goes through?

FROM POLE TO PODIUM

PORT ELIZABETH (ZA) <COLIN WINDELL>: Audi continued its blitz on the AA
Fleetcare Super Touring Championship with two wins from two pole
position starts at the Aldo Scribante Raceway in Port Elizabeth at the
weekend.

Each Rothmans Audi driver, Terry Moss and Chris Aberdein, claimed a pole
position start and each scored a race victory with the other finishing
second.

Moss took his Rothmans Audi A4 to pole position for the first race with
the Opel Vectra of Mike Briggs alongside him. Behind them Chris Aberdein
(Rothmans Audi A4) and Grant McCleery (Opel Vectra) shared the second
row with Julian Bailey (Minolta Toyota Camry) and Shaun van der Linde
(BMW 318i) making up row three.

>From the line Moss raced away to lead the field into the Luk Repco
right-hander for the first time, followed closely by Aberdein and Briggs
with Bailey leading a gaggle of cars including Van der Linde, Craig
Baird (BMW 318i) and McCleery.

By lap two Moss had stretched his lead slightly and the gap between
Aberdein in second place and Briggs was starting to show signs of
daylight. Bailey stayed fourth ahead of Van der Linde and Baird with
Deon Joubert (BMW 318i) having deposed McCleery to move up a place.

On lap seven McCleery went past Joubert, catching and passing Baird two
laps later, this group now coming under pressure from the Scania-backed
Audi 80 of Hennie Groenewald - the two leading Audis meanwhile pulling
away from the rest of the field.

On lap 13 Joubert passed Baird with Groenewald emulating the action a
lap later only to come into contact with each other on the next lap with
Baird coming off worst and dropping two places behind the BP Nissan
Sentras of Duncan Vos and Giniel de Villiers.

With Moss unchallenged as race leader, Aberdein comfortable in second
place and Briggs lying a lonely third, the final laps saw a determined
charge by McCleery as he fought through to fifth and started to put the
pressure on Julian Bailey's Toyota Camry, finally sneaking past on the
last lap.

In the second race it was Aberdein's Audi A4 that lead from pole
position through to take the flag with Moss obligingly finishing second.
Moss lost second place early in the race when he went off the circuit
and let Briggs through into second place for five laps before retaking
the Opel driver.

Shaun van der Linde made a good start in the BMW to be fourth in the
opening laps but on lap four he ran out of brakes and slid off the
track into retirement, allowing Bailey to move into the position ahead
of McCleery and Groenewald.

Behind them Duncan Vos (BP Nissan Sentra) was holding off a challenge
from Craig Baird, Deon Joubert and Giniel de Villiers (BP Nissan
Sentra). The latter three cars got a bit too close to each other on
lap 11 with both Joubert and De Villiers going off and out of the race
while Anthony Taylor (Castrol Toyota Camry), then in 11th place, piled
into the melee, severely damaging the front of his car.

On lap 17 Bailey and Vos had a coming together which saw Bailey return
his car to pits while Baird retired with an engine problem.

In the battle for honours in Class B Heinrich Lategan in the Beeld BMW
318i notched up a win in the first race after a race-long tussle with
Charl Wilken in the Toyota Sprinter - Wilken repaying the favour by
reversing the position for the second race, each driver going home
with 15 points for their efforts.

Dave Repsold in the Automark Toyota Sprinter finished third in class
in both heats ahead of George Bezuidenhout's Nissan Sentra.
