Radar guns

	Fellow Speeders:

Interesting discussion on admissiblity of gun readings from the
West coast. There are ways to get the reading into evidence, some ways,
sometimes, to keep it out. However, the proposition of discrediting
radar readings is a tough one. Most officers are VERY well versed [read
trained] in testifying about radar gun readings and what they did at the
beginning of the shift to check the accuracy of the gun.

Experts do exist that can testify about the tendencies of some
guns, under certain conditions, to give false readings--even though
"properly" calibrated. The service they provide is not cheap [read here,
thousands, not hundreds] and, cannot always help. I mentioned the
experts in a note yesterday and did not want to give the impression that
they are a cure-all for every speeding ticket. THEY ARE NOT. Usually,
the reading will come in against you and yes, you will pay the piper.
