Re: Color-tune plug????

I have heard of it, but do not know where. Perhaps the JC Whitney catalog?

One can also 'read' a regular plug by removing it from the head after some
miles and examining the color of the insulator and the condition of the
electrodes. Much can be learned about the condition of the engine, mixture
and ignition timing, etc. Any good race shop or engine builder will be able
to 'read' a plug for you. Some good auto parts stores with experienced help
can read plugs too. Install a set of new and correct-for-the-application
plugs and drive normally for a tank of fuel or so and remove all plugs for
reading. You can learn about individual cylinder problems and fool
distribution problems by reading all the plugs.
