No I'm not wrong. There was a thread on this several months ago but I didn't
feel like responding. My 1986 5000T had a build date of April 1986. It had
the dual piston design - each piston was about 1.25 to 1.5 inches in
diameter.
Sorry Eric but Mark is telling the truth.... BuzzzzzzzT
According to the micro-fiche from Audi.......
The early 86 5000T came with the single piston calipers, on the 5000T they went to the
dual calipers at VIN # G 073 362. My 9/85 (86 model 5000T VIN #032 142) had the single
caliper design) I don't have the specific VIN when the 5000TQ's in 86 changed over to
the dual piston calipers but the service bulletins mention that a "new" wheel was
required when the switch to dual calipers was made........
The 89 Model 200TQ's used the dual caliper design until VIN # K 045 020, my 89 model 200TQ
12/88 build date with a VIN # slightly over K 050 000 has the single pistion calipers as
Mark described.
I guess Audi could not make up their mind on those crazy calipers, the single piston design
could be cheaper to manufacture and may share its use among other models in the Audi line.
Without starting a huge debate.......Could those 89 single calipers work as well as the
earlier dual piston design???...............will Bob Dole make it to the white house??.........will my
cat ever stop coughing up fur balls?? .............these questions and more will be answered.........
as the world turns...........or as my Audi spins.........................
Nomex suit is buttoned up..................Uh Houstan, we have got a problem.........
