I've got MSW type 55 16X7.5 on my '83 UrQ with 225/50/16 Dunlop SP8000 
rubber all around.  Also have the Eibach springs, so the car is 
significantly lower.  Had to roll the rear fenders to get them to fit.  
Tight, but it works.  I'd say that it would be difficult to get anything 
wider to fit in an '83.
