Car Talk

I was browsing and wandered into the Car Talk website. It has some
fairly useful information as pertaining to problems, recalls, crash
tests, etc. (I was actually searching for Da Puzzla)

I couldn't find anything for S6 Avants, so I searched on '85 Quattros.
Here's what I found....

SYSTEM: FUEL
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER CARS WITH TURBO.
DESCRIPTION OF DEFECT: FUEL INJECTION SEALS MAY HARDEN, DUE TO HIGH
TEMPERATURE AND ALCOHOL IN SOME FUELS, AND ALLOW FUEL TO ESCAPE INTO
THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.
CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: FUEL DRIPPING ONTO HOT ENGINE COMPONENTS COULD
CAUSE AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE.
CORRECTIVE ACTION: REPLACE ENGINES FUEL INJECTOR SEALS WITH IMPROVED
SEALS PLUS IMPROVEMENTS DESIGNED TO BETTER INSULATE THE ENGINE
AGAINST FIRE RISK.
MANUFACTURER: VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA,INC
NHTSA report #89V006000

it doesn't mention anything about the end of your dipstick falling
off though....
