Unintended Acceleration
This message is just my findings, not definate problems with all of
the Audi's.
This was done on an '84 5kS 5-speed
I had a problem w/ my idle stabilizer. I deteremined it was the
relay. (Under the dash, biggest one). I snagged a couple at the local
auto salvage yards. I plugged one in, all was great! So I drove it
around the block. Pulled up in the drive way. decided to let it run a
couple minutes while I listened to the radio.
All of the sudden the idle was at 2 Grand and climbing,
It hit 4 grand and stayed there. I shut the engine off, let it sit
30 seconds, restarted. All was Well (not really). After another 30
seconds it did the same thing again. I unplugged the relay when this
was happening and the idle returned to normal. I have not had a
chance to get another relay lately so it has just been unplugged.
No more acceleration problems.
My conclusion: The Idle Stabilizer relay cause unintended engine
acceleration.
Change yours if your idle is starting to hunt!
