Maybe the word Fuego has come to mean crap in French, just like
Pinto means fiery explosion in American English :-)"

Fuego, Encore, Alliance,... a lot of synomyms.

French cars have never been as reliable and well-built as their
German counterparts. These days quality has improved but still I
would much rather buy an Audi rather a Renault, Peugeot or
Citroen. No doubt about it (and I know why, I am French).

Now, it looks like people drive more in the US than in Europe. My
previous car (a VW Scirocco) had 104,000 miles when I sold it, and
was still in a very good condition. Try to buy a car in Europe with
the same milage, and you won't go very far, unless it's a diesel
(but the engine is the only OK part in the car).

It's probably the reason why French cars are not sold in the US
anymore. Competition among the imports would be tough with
the lifeless but reliable Japanese cars and the well-designed
German cars.
