brakes-new-report on
I've noticed a lot of conflicting reports on brakes so, here's one more
datapoint.
Have an '85 4000Q that needed new rotors so I decided to go for it.
Put on Brembo cross-drilled front rotors + Repco MetalMasters (MM) important to
do at the same time.
Put on Repco standard (Deluxe?) pad on the rear w/ stock rotors.
Advice from the distributors technical guy:
1. cross-drilled on the rear is a waste of money since the fronts do most of
the work.
2. MM on the rear doesn't make sense either
3. Break-in procedure is to drive normally for a couple weeks before you abuse
the brakes, i.e. DON'T stop 20 times in one session. The supplier's technical
director looked this advice up before he told me so it might be different for
other cars/setups.
My initial reaction was that cold performance was kinda slippery, so I called
and asked and got advice #3. After a couple weeks of normal use, I was
surprised to find that cold performance was within maybe 5% or less of stock
Audi pads and HOT performance is HOT. MM has changed over the years, for the
better.
