conventional wisdom (does it apply to a quattro?) has been to install the
better (new) tires in the rear, on the theory that you can't steer that end
if the tires fail. in fact, i've come across tire shops that won't do
otherwise if you only buy 2 tires. makes sense. (but then how in tarnation
are you ever suppose to rotate tires on a FWD car?)
